Edmonton Exhibition
Latitude 53 professional photos from gallery
After sitting on these photos for a while, I thought now would be a good time to talk about the Dinnsi Abuur exhibition ππ Couz look at how amazing this loooks π»
About the exhibition: This project started back in 2023 with Somali Minnesotan artists being invited to show case work at @thebows_yyc in Calgary under the Dinnsi Abuur: broadcast signals program.
The invitations were later extended to artists in Alberta, leading to a show at the Soomaal house in Minnesota. Then after the success of that exhibition, @ignorantjas from the bows brought the program to Edmonton for another showing which just recently wrapped up.
Looking back, I never thought that a small meeting back in 2023 would result to all of this. It was a wonderful experience to showcase my work along side my sister @faisaomer_ . To have my paintings connected to a larger theme and viewed by family, friends and complete strangers was something truly special-amazinglyyy cool-a dream of mine I never thought would come this early. Alhamdulilah π
To the og team in Minnesota @faisaomer_ @ignorantja, @godfreisdead. Our mentors at the @soomaalhouse @hundredmp @gja_shire + Kaamil. And to @latitude_53 for the amazing work put in for the exhibition in Edmonton. Thank you, thank you thank you!
Our public programming marketing video: We had a large number of people in attendance due to this video, it had 13k+ views on tiktok. Most attendees who came to the event said they saw the video on social media and decided to come. Very grateful to all who showed up!
